I’m reading ‘Making Ideas Happen’ and I’m just getting to the part about freelancers marketing themselves. It was recommended by a SCC grad. He talks about a world-class violinist who commands $200 for even the cheap seats when he plays. Researchers dressed him in ratty clothes in the subway where he was busking using a $3,500,000 Stradivarius violin playing some of the most advanced compositions. He made $36 in one hour.
A Freelancer must spend 1/2 of the workday marketing themselves and their services, and the other half providing it.
Marketing is indispensable.
